The big day is here! Wishing you a huge good luck from all of us here at Team WhiteHat! Remember, just like Caxie, Syeda and Aliyah said — no matter what happens, everything is going to be ok. You still have options! Read on to hear what results day was like for them…and watch this space to hear what they did next after receiving their results.

Caxie

In all honesty, it wasn’t even a ‘hype’ anymore at that point because everyone was going on about it for weeks so I was completely over it. I still had a bit of butterflies and excitement in the morning but I found out what my results were on the bus journey to my college when I logged in to my UCAS and got an email confirmation from Loughborough to do Sports Psychology. After picking up the letter for the sake of it, the school took a few photos. Then I sent a message to my parents about the good news. Then went for a 12 hour shift. Then went for a cheeky drink with my colleagues.

I didn’t get the results I was hoping for, in all fairness, the grades I hoped for didn’t match my work ethic at that point. However, because of the work that I put in the previous (Year 12) and the quality of my UCAS portfolio, even though I missed a grade, Loughborough still offered me a place.

A big smile, I’d just finished jumping around. I was on the phone to my mum telling her the GOOD NEWS! I had passed, I was able to get into university, I was able to take the course I wanted, I had made everyone proud, I felt proud of myself. I smiled when the lady handed me my brown envelope. I went to stand in the corner with the most unamused look on my face, and when I opened it and looked at the results I couldn’t speak. I looked again then I screamed and laughed. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders and I took a deep breath and thought wow, now what will I do? I am in control of my career from here.

I didn’t get the results I was hoping for, but I got the results to pass and enable me to get even further. That’s all that mattered to me. I knew that if I tried hard enough and put my priorities straight, I would get what I wanted. For me, it was more than the grades, and getting in to university. It was a challenge that I’d overcome, habits I’d managed to break, distractions I’d turned in to focus. Life lessons which a grade can’t measure. When I compare my A-Level results to my GCSE results, I always felt a slight feeling of disappointment but now I think how proud I should be of myself: A Levels are HARD and for you to be able to get through two years and succeed is a huge deal. Don’t let anyone tell you different. These results had a huge impact on my next steps, not only did they signify that I’ve completed higher education, it also signified how well I did. Photography and Media Studies were two of my A Levels and they’re both super competitive industries to try and make your mark in. Getting these grades meant that I would get noticed more and could apply for courses having higher knowledge and experience. All leading to a successful creative career.

Results day came. My results were not amazing but I was still quite happy with them. I did not get through to my first university choice however I did manage to get through to my second choice. My second choice was not very exciting, so after a long debate I decided to ‘drop out’ before my first day.

It was already September and this was probably the most uncertain time of my life so far. Luckily, I ended up finding a sales representative job at a marketing company. I did this for half a year with many ups and downs. A time came for a new start so I started job hunting again…
