London - 23rd September 2019 - Santander and tech startup WhiteHat, have partnered to launch a Data Science Apprenticeship, the first of its kind in the banking sector. The flagship programme will enable the bank to build a pipeline of data savvy employees as it transforms from a traditional lender to a digital lender.

The programme will see a cohort of school leavers from across the country, develop into highly skilled data analysts through the structured apprenticeship at Santander. This will allow the bank to draw from an ambitious and diverse new talent pool.

Iain Gallagher, Senior Manager, Emerging Talent at Santander said: “At Santander, we recognise that apprenticeships offer people an alternative route into a banking career other that the traditional graduate path. This helps attract talent from all walks of life and ensures the financial services sector as a whole better reflect the communities we serve. We are delighted to partner with WhiteHat to offer inspiring learning whilst developing critical digital skills across the bank.”

Founded in 2016, WhiteHat matches ambitious non-graduate talent to professional services and digital roles, then delivers innovative and job-relevant applied learning over the course of their apprenticeship. WhiteHat has over 1000 career starters applying to join their elite apprenticeship programmes every week.

Euan Blair, Co-founder and CEO of WhiteHat said, “We’re really excited to be working with Santander on this pioneering programme. We’re seeing an increasing number of top employers recognising the value in apprenticeship programmes as a source of attracting and developing incredible talent. Everyone involved will receive a coach to help them fulfil their potential, join technical boot camps designed to turn them into accomplished data specialists, and gain access to the thriving on and offline WhiteHat community of socials, sports teams, advice and networking.”
