  1. Exploring the unknown
  2. Relearning and resilience
  3. The meaningful challenge

Iria Saleiro is one of our Regional Sales Directors at Multiverse. Iria joined us just over a year ago and leads a team of six Account Executives. In this blog, Iria shares her personal experiences of navigating change, challenging periods of growth and experiencing success.

Taking on a new challenge or adventure is never easy. But when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, you will grow and achieve more than you could ever imagine.

I’ve recently been reflecting on times when I’ve been through periods of rapid growth. At first, I felt excited and energised, but shortly after I started to doubt myself and question whether I had made the right decision. This also challenged my confidence. But in the end, these periods have been the most rewarding and successful of my career. Sometimes it can feel hard to stay motivated, so I wanted to share two personal experiences that might help other people on similar journeys.

Exploring the unknown

Eight years ago, I joined one of the fast-growing software companies in the world, AppDynamics, in a junior sales role. I attended the annual kick-off in San Francisco and I didn’t understand many of the presentations. I sat among 300 people and started to question what I was doing there and doubted my capabilities.

After settling into my role, little by little, I learned, progressed and achieved small wins that built up my confidence. Over time I felt more in control of what I was doing and I knew I was on the right path. Once I reached my comfort zone, I took on another challenge - leadership. The first six months were really hard. I was no longer in control and I felt like I had to prove myself all over again. Additionally, I didn’t want to let down the people who put me forward for the promotion. It was tough but full of learning, and with the support of the leadership team around me, I felt myself growing every day.

Looking back now, I reflect on that period with huge pride as I experienced fantastic growth and successful outcomes, despite it being challenging. It definitely shaped the person and leader I am today.

Relearning and resilience

Now, at Multiverse, I recently took on a new team and I had to start again. I needed to get to know my team, identify where I could support and add value, and understand the different deals and risk areas. Even though I’ve been leading teams for five years, when you take on a new challenge you have to push yourself and relearn best practices to be successful. And I was nervous because I care. I care about the people, the business, our results and our mission.

Lots of our incredible sales team have been selling for years but when you join Multiverse you have to learn a new way of selling that you know will make you successful, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy! You need the resilience and the drive to keep pushing and trusting yourself because success is right around the corner.

It is during these times that you need a strong team around you - friends, family, colleagues and mentors. They will help you to reconnect with the real you, to have swagger and confidence!

And then one day, without expecting it, you will feel different. You will feel in control, you will relax and you will smile because you know you’ve made it to the bright side! The side where excellence is a habit and being great isn’t what you strive for, it’s who you are.

The meaningful challenge

I wanted to share these stories because I have learnt that everyone will experience these feelings at some point in their lives and careers, and when you know that you are not alone it helps to give you perspective and energise you on the path to success. Well, at least it did for me.

To finish I would like to share a French quote that really resonated with me:

"A vaincre sans peril, on triomphe sans gloire".

I will be nice and translate it as otherwise you may not understand it!

"To conquer without peril, is to win without glory"

The challenge that you are going through may not be easy, but once you get to the top of that mountain that you are climbing, you will have an amazing feeling of pride, growth, and achievement - and you will never forget it. It’s worth it, I promise!

Join Multiverse and kickstart your own challenging road to success.
